About Sarah

Registered Clinical Psychologist

Therapy doesn’t need to be complicated or mysterious. Sure it can feel confronting, painful even, but we’re in this together as therapist and client.

My job is to make you feel safe so that you can be brave and open. Then we can work as equals on whatever it is that’s bugging you so much that it brought you to me.

Humans are hardwired to reflect and learn and grow. You are no exception. So no matter how scared or overwhelmed or weird or silly you feel about why you’re here, between us, we’ll work on understanding and managing it in ways that work for you.

I’m going to listen and learn a lot about you. Here are some useful things you need to know about me.

I’m a fallible human

I’m not better than you. I’ve done extensive training, but I don’t know everything. I get lots of things right and some things wrong.

I can't do magic, except with a packet of hair dye and a pair of scissors. Cutting and colouring my hair is my secret superpower. I may change my look between your appointments. Don't stress. I'm still me.

I'm genuinely me

I don’t turn on ‘therapist mode’ when you arrive. I’m transparently and authentically me. I accept you as you are, and I never judge you. I’m curious about how you tick and attentive to what you tell me about that. When the moment is right, my sense of humour sneaks out. Because a bit of laughter can go a long way when we’re looking to see things differently.

I’m a transplanted Kiwi

Like most New Zealanders, I learned early to take earth tremors in my stride. Keeping calm while the ground shakes is a useful skill for a therapist.

I moved to Melbourne after the Christchurch earthquake. Twelve years on, I’m an established, contented Melburnian. But I know what it feels like to have your world upended by forces beyond your control.
